About the project

Together we are creating the future of local food

Project “Network of Ambassadors of Knowledge on Urban and Rural Food Gdynia” combines the diagnosis of the food system of Gdynia and surrounding towns with the design of solutions, education and activities in the urban space — with a special focus on the role of small producers of plant-based food. FURKAN Gdynia is an initiative implemented by Busola Trends in partnership with the City of Gdynia and in cooperation with the Zatoka Foundation. The project is part of the EIT Food project portfolio and is part of the EIT Community New European Bauhaus Enhance 2025 project group, funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

Between the sea and the garden, in the landscape of Kashubia

Family allotment gardens, urban beds and small-scale producers from neighboring municipalities form a local food system that, although often invisible, plays a vital role in the daily lives of residents. Gdynia and the surrounding towns are located within the borders of Kashubia, a region with strong traditions of cultivation, processing and cooperation. The FURKAN Gdynia project takes this context into account. It refers to existing practices and networks of dependencies to support the development of a sustainable plant-based food system with respect for local culture and traditions.

Objectives and challenges

Identify, design, root

The local food system in Gdynia and surrounding municipalities today faces challenges related to food safety and quality, environmental changes and lack of cooperation between key actors — from gardeners and farmers to public institutions. The FURKAN Gdynia initiative aims to understand these problems and build a resilient food system through actions based on local knowledge, collaborative solution design and education. The project combines the diagnosis of the local food system with the design of solutions, education and activities in the urban space.
